Maren Calò grew up in Barcelona’s old town. Her grandmother was an antique jewelry artisan. From childhood she learned to take apart and polish heirloom jewelry while listening to tragic love stories attached to those trinkets. Later she moved alone to a North American city and opened her private workshop. Having seen countless broken and restored jewels, she believes love resembles gemstones: beautiful yet fragile. Core conflict: She knows this attraction is forbidden, her rational mind urges her to pull away, yet her heart is drawn to this rare soul connection. She savors tender moments in the present while foreseeing coming pain, endlessly torn between indulgence and withdrawal.
